Nervous Amy? At a pre-Oscars party Halle Berry looked stunning while nominee Amy Adams covered up in a dowdy outfit

She might be in the running for an Oscar but Amy Adams certainly lost out in the style stakes last night.

With pre-Oscar parties in full swing there were plenty of reasons to dress up in Hollywood and Halle Berry did just that while Amy opted for a more understated look.

In a draped cutaway dress Halle was looking every inch the star beauty at the cocktail party last night.

Who's older? Halle Berry in a cutout grey dress looked younger than Amy Adams, eight years her junior, who was dressed in a frumpy suit

The competition: Melissa Leo, who is also up for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress also attended the pre-Oscars party

In fact the 44-year-old actress was looking so good, she appeared much more youthful than Amy Adams who stepped out looking rather frumpy in a grey multi-tonal suit.

The pair attended the Fourth Annual Women In Film pre-Oscar party at Soho House in West Hollywood but Halle appeared considerably younger than Amy who at 36-year-old, is actually eight years her junior.

In her covered up ensemble Adams certainly lost out to Halle in the style stakes and her outfit appeared oversized and ill-fitting.

Warm greeting: The women enjoyed a nice chat at the party and appeared to be complementing each other on the others outfit

The girls greeted each other warmly and appeared the complement the other on their different outfits.

On Sunday Amy will learn if she has won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Charlene Fleming in The Fighter.

Her co-star Mellisa Leo, who is also up for the Best Supporting Actress gong attended the bash and dressed up for the occasion in a satin and sequined ensemble.

The 50-year-old actress plays Alice Ward, the mother of the half-brothers played by Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale in The Fighter, but unlike Amy, seemed happy and relaxed ahead of the awards ceremony.

But then while both actresses were nominated for a Golden Globe in the Best Supporting Actress category at the Golden Globes, it was Leo who walked away with the gong.

The 2010 film has achieved seven Academy Award nominations including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Supporting Actor.
